Sooke is a old fishing village town in the southwestern corner of Vancouver Island...only about 30 minutes from where we live. It's a great place for adventure-seekers, people come all around to hike the trails through the rainforests, by the ocean, inlets, and creeks... We found out Sooke is also famous for its potholes and spit...devoting entire parks to potholes and spit...

What? That's what we thought...so we had to go take a look for ourselves...and we weren't disappointed.

We entered the park and sure enough, we see them at once... huge holes on the road.

But shortly, we came among the most beautiful potholes we had ever seen...

So of course now we had to see what the Spit was all about...
Jeremy and I were throwing around theories: Was Whiffen a giant that had a bad habit of spitting? And spit so much he created a body of water?
Whiffen Spit turned out to be a 3/4 mile long sand spit that separates Sooke Harbour from the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the state of Washington. With a small lighthouse in the end, the short hike is popular for birdwatchers and those like us who just liked the view of the opposite shore and the the Olympic Mts on the other side.
